Why Oviedo

In the heart of Florida’s Central Florida, Oviedo is a charming and growing city. With a population of around 42,500 people, it has all of the perks of a small town with the amenities you would expect from one much larger. The history of this area dates back to before European settlers came to America – in fact, archaeologists have found evidence that Native Americans lived here as far back as 7500 BC!

Oviedo is well known for its temperate weather, which makes it a popular destination for retirees and those who want to escape the cold winters up north. The city boasts plenty of parks, lakes, and nature preserves, as well as a quaint downtown district with unique shops and restaurants. There’s also a strong arts and culture scene here, with several performance venues and museums.  And for those who love to get outdoors, Oviedo is a great place to be; the city is home to over 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and running.

The city of Oviedo is served by the Seminole County School District, one of the largest in Florida. The district has over 60 schools, including 14 high schools. There are also several private and parochial schools in the area. For higher education, Oviedo residents have access to several universities and colleges in nearby Orlando and Altamonte Springs.

Oviedo is home to several major businesses including the headquarters for Ace Hardware Corporation North America, Direct Brands (the parent company of well-known brands like Victoria’s Secret, Henri Bendel and others), Encore Wire Corp., SunTrust Bank Florida Central East Coast Systems Division Office as well as several others. The city also has a strong industrial base, with companies like Lockheed Martin and Siemens having major operations here. And for those who prefer to work from home, Oviedo is a great place to be – the city ranks in the top 20 percent of U.S. cities for the percentage of workers who telecommute.

The Oviedo housing market is healthy and growing. The median home value in the city is just over $400,000, and homes are selling quickly. There’s a good mix of homes available, from starter homes to luxury properties, and the real estate industry is active.
