Why Clermont

Clermont is a city in Central Florida, United States. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 42,482 at the 2021 census. Clermont’s history dates back to 1883 when it was first established as “Langley”, and later renamed after Clermont County, Ohio, by railroad officials on July 9th, 1884. The town was founded by William Haines Hall who then sold his land to various settlers looking for homes in central Florida.

It has a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers and mild winters. The city lies in the Florida Heartland of central Florida about southeast of Orlando on Lake Minneola. Clermont attracts many tourists throughout the year who play golf at one of the many golf courses in the area, visit one of the theme parks located within a short drive from the city, or enjoy fishing on Lake Minneola. There are also numerous shopping and dining options available in Clermont. Clermont is home to one of the most reputable, private elementary schools in Florida. The school offers preschool through eighth grade classes for students and features small class sizes that allow teachers to offer individualized attention. The high school is the second largest in the district with over 2000 students.

Clermont has a number of notable attractions, including Citrus Tower which stands at 248 feet tall and offers great views across Lake Minneola. The tower was constructed by Clermont resident John Hunker for his wife Jean to honor her life-long love of  citrus fruit. It is one of three observation towers in Florida that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

You can also visit some local parks while you’re here, including Clermont’s newest park which features a playground for children, walking trails and picnic facilities. The city also boasts an 18-hole championship golf course known as Victoria Hills Golf Club, and many of the homes for sale in Clermont are located close to this course.
